Cardón Forest Trails

Gentle, Immersive, Desert Magic

Walk among giants. The Cardón Forest is a network of soft, sandy trails that wind through a forest of towering cardones (also known as elephant cacti) found only in Baja California, Baja California Sur, and Sonora.

This gentle hike is perfect for all levels and offers a unique, immersive way to experience the Baja desert. You'll be surrounded by sand dunes and brushy coastal vegetation, with glimpses of the ocean on one side and towering cardones along with native trees, and mountain backdrops on the other.

Keep your eyes out for playful hares, curious birds, and native flora, some of which are marked with plant ID signs to deepen your connection to the landscape.

Punta Gorda Trail

Epic Views, Cliffside Trails, and a Secluded Swim

This is where Baja really shows off. Punta Gorda is the northernmost trail in La Ventana, offering sweeping views over the Sea of Cortez and the dramatic coastline that hugs Cerralvo Island.

Expect a mix of mellow tread and steeper, rocky sections as the trail winds in and out of the mountain. One moment you’re surrounded by desert peaks, the next you’re walking the edge of a cliff with the sea shimmering below.

Wildlife watchers, keep an eye out for ospreys riding the thermals above, wild hares darting through the brush, and maybe even a chipmunk or two. The trail finishes at a quiet beach, perfect for a cooling dip before the return hike.

Trail Distance: 5 km round trip
